The Labour party I joined will be no more if the motion before us today is carried. It will be replaced by a new party.
- Dr Pat Upton TD, Dublin South Central.
I thought I would never live to see the day when we would be asked, in essence, to dissolve the Labour party of 86 years and form a new party. I, delegates, feel very, very sore . . .
- Mr Brian Fitzgerald, Meath.
I have had 56 years membership of this party, and during most of that time we were fragmented. I believe now is the opportunity . . .
- Mr Michael Moynihan, Kerry South.
I never wanted to win a seat more than I do now. But, by heck, I hate going in as a running mate with a DL candidate.
- Mr Liam Kavanagh, Labour.
The party is bigger than any one of us.
- Ms Sheila O'Sullivan, Cork North Central.
I consider the one-candidate strategy to be the correct one.
- Ms Bernie Malone, Dublin MEP, who will be contesting the European elections with Mr Proinsias De Rossa.
