Lady Bear came with a powerful late flourish to snatch a dramatic victory in the Stg£100,000 William Hill Mile at Goodwood this afternoon.

Richard Fahey's mare was drawn on the far rail and she took full advantage of her favourable stall position as she clung to the inside.

Winning Venture cut out the running at a good pace, chased by Faithful Warrior and Norton, with Lady Bear being scrubbed along behind the leaders.

Two furlongs out Faithful Warrior went for home and looked to have the post in his sights.

But Paul Hanagan had the move covered and conjuring a great run out of Lady Bear, he pushed her head in front close home.

She sprinted clear to land the £58,000 first prize by a length and a quarter at 10-1 from Faithful Warrior (25-1).

Nashaab (14-1) was three-quarters of a length away, with Winning Venture (33-1) fourth.

Fahey said: "This is our first winner from the new yard at Musley Bank. We moved in on Tuesday.

"This race was the plan all year. We had mentioned the Hunt Cup, but we pulled her out because of the ground, and this is a good pot to win.

"We will wait for the ground before we decide where to go next."
