London - A murder charge against the husband of the so-called "Lady of the lake", Mrs Carol Park, was last night dramatically dropped.
Mr Gordon Park (53) had been due to appear before magistrates in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, next week, to be committed to the Crown Court charged with the killing of Mrs Park, whose body was found at the bottom of Coniston Water in the Lake District last August, 21 years after she vanished from their home.
The Crown Prosecution Service said the case had been ended because of "insufficient evidence".
