An appeal has been lodged in the Court of Criminal Appeal by the man jailed for the manslaughter of Dublin student Brian Murphy.

Dermot Laide was jailed for four years earlier this month for the killing outside Dublin's Burlington Hotel in August 2000. The appeal is against conviction and sentence.

Dermot Laide (22), of Rossvale, Castleblayney, Co Monaghan, also received a concurrent two-year term after he was also found guilty of violent disorder surrounding the death of the 18-year-old, who was kicked and beaten to death after he had attended Club Anabel.

Laide was one of three people given jail sentences following the incident involving Mr Murphy and all three have now lodged appeals.
