Henrik Larsson pounced late on to give Celtic a 1-0 win over Blackburn Rovers in the UEFA Cup second round, first leg in Glasgow tonight.
Swedish striker Larsson stabbed the ball home from close range after 85 minutes after substitute John Hartson's header was brilliantly stopped on the line by midfielder David Thompson.
The goal was a massive blow to Blackburn Rovers manager Graeme Souness who had seen his side dominate for large parts of the match.
Scottish champions Celtic were indebted to their keeper, Rob Douglas, for keeping them in the tie.
Douglas saved sharply from Thompson early on and from substitute David Dunn with nine minutes remaining.
A late Harry Kewell goal earned Leeds United a 1-0 win over Hapoel Tel Aviv's at Elland Road.
Leeds had hit the woodwork three times before Kewell, a constant problem for the Israeli defence in the second half, struck in the 82nd minute with a left-footed shot which deflected off a Hapoel defender.
The goal was reward for almost constant pressure by Leeds in the second period.
Two minutes from time Leeds 'keeper Paul Robinson superbly tipped a Toema free kick over the bar.
Nick Barmby hit the post with a first-half overhead kick while Mark Viduka and Ian Harte also hit the woodwork with free kicks.
Meanwhile, Joe Royle's first game in charge of Ipswich proved to be a winning one after Darren Bent scored the only goal of the game in their victory over Slovan Liberec at Portman Road.
