Laura Sheeran, Body & Soul:
When you list the artists that the Galway-born Laura Sheeran has already worked with, you'll quickly begin to assemble a who's who of exceptional sounds.
Sheeran may have shared recording time and credits with Brian and Roger Eno, Robert Fripp, Clodagh Simonds and others, but she's very much her own woman, as this dramatic, exceptional and striking performance demonstrated.
In sonics and tone, Sheeran works similar dynamics to such musical adventurers as Fever Ray's Karin Dreijer or Fatima Al Qadiri, but it's her experimental approach to songcraft which puts her in a different place.
These songs move in mysterious ways, never quite heading in the mapped direction when they can twist and turn and twirl hither and thither instead. An engrossing set.
