A UCD law graduate who "infiltrated" a Belfast law firm to spy on judges, lawyers and loyalist paramilitaries for the IRA has been jailed for six years.
Convicting John Charles Tumelty, a Belfast Crown Court judge, Mr Justice Coghlin, told him that, while others sought peace he "voluntarily joined an organisation whose actions have been roundly and unequivocally rejected by the overwhelming majority". Tumelty was convicted of a total of 14 charges, including two of IRA membership.
