Golf:England's Gary Boyd equalled the course record of 63 to take a two shot lead into the final round of the Castello Masters where Peter Lawrie is just four off the pace in a share of fourth at the Club de Campo del Mediterraneo in Spain.

Boyd, in his rookie year on tour, went eight-under just three hours after his friend and compatriot John Parry had also shot 63 to lie five strokes off the pace.

Now Boyd, on 14-under 199 for the tournament, is determined to match Parry's recent win in the tour's Vivendi Cup.

"John's my room-mate and we're feeding off each other this year, trying to push each other along," said the 24-year-old. "But a lot of my friends have won on tour; I'm the only one left. I'm going to be trying to change that."

Matteo Manassero (67), the 17-year-old Italian hoping to become the youngest European Tour winner, shares second place with Sweden's Christian Nilsson (66), who produced another miraculous shot to maintain his challenge.

Manassero holed a 40-foot birdie putt from off the green on the 17th for a 67. It kept alive his chances of bettering New Zealander Danny Lee's triumph at the 2009 Johnnie Walker Classic, when Lee was 18.

Manassero felt his driving and putting this week have given him a great opportunity.

"You have to hit the ball straight here, that's the sort of course I like," Manassero said. "And the greens are pure, you can hole some long putts on them."

Nilsson finished second in last year's Castellon event behind his compatriot Michael Jonzon.

The Swede preserved his round of 66 in breathtaking fashion on the last, finding the green despite having to play from the base of a dry-stone wall with an advertising hoarding blocking his route.

Lawrie carded a six birdie and two bogey round of 67 to get himself into position to challenge in tomorrow’s final round on 10 under. The Dubliner fired out of the blocks with three consecutive birdies. However two bogeys in the last five holes took some of the shine off the day.

Gareth Maybin moved to three under with his 69, while Damien McGrane (71), Paul McGinley (72) and Michael Hoey (75) were all one under. Shane Lowry’s 76 dropped him back to two over.
