Italian champions Lazio have been banned from their home ground for one match for their fans' racist behaviour during Sunday's Rome derby.

The club was also fined 60 million lire (£30,000), an Italian Football League spokeswoman said.

Lazio fans held up a banner carrying the words: "Black squad, Jewish home end".

The banner - aimed at Roma who have several black players on their books and a substantial Jewish element in their support base - was accompanied by racist chants against Roma's Brazilian defender Cafu and French defender Jonathan Zebina.

Lazio have been fined on numerous occasions for the racist behaviour of their fans, a hardcore section of whom are believed to have links with far-right political groups.

Lazio, third in Serie A and trailing seven points behind leaders Roma, were due to play Bari at home at the Olympic Stadium on Saturday.

A decision on where the match will be played is to be made later on Wednesday.
