ABOUT 20 per cent of students have won an upgrade of their Leaving Cert grades after a recheck, the State Examinations Commission (SEC) said last night.
The highest number of appeals came in higher level English; over 2,000 students demanded a recheck and over 10 per cent were upgraded. In higher level geography almost 300 of the 1,000 students who sought an appeal secured an upgrade.
About 20 per cent also gained an upgrade in higher level Irish and biology. In higher level maths 127 of 612 students gained an upgrade. At ordinary level only 84 of 511 appeals were successful.
Candidates unhappy with results of their appeal may opt to view remarked exam scripts. If so, they must complete the application form with the appeal results and return it through the school that entered them for examination by Friday, 10th October. Externally entered candidates should return the form to the SEC by 5pm next Tuesday, October 14th.
The viewing will be held in the SEC Athlone office on Saturday, October 18th at 10am-4pm.
