A COLLEGE lecturer came back to earth yesterday having spent 48 hours in a perspex box suspended over Fermoy in Co Cork.
Conor O’Kane (29), who teaches business at NUI Galway started the challenge on Friday and completed it shortly after 2pm yesterday.
The challenge was organised in a bid to raise €20,000 for Haiti earthquake victims.
The perspex box was suspended over Fermoy town square. Mr O’Kane was equipped with a sleeping bag, warm blankets and a bucket for sanitation. He did not eat during the challenge.
Mr O’Kane felt compelled to undergo the challenge having got involved in charity work in Haiti last October.
He explained “it was a truly life-changing experience”.
He is hoping to bring four other tradesmen to Haiti to build houses with the Haven project next October. Donations can be made to AIB branch 93-60-82, account number 20098098.
