More than 100 lecturing staff at the Dublin Institute of Technology, Aungier Street, have voted in favour of strike action in support of contracts for parttime staff in the college. The staff, who are members of the Teachers' Union of Ireland, will meet tomorrow to consider a possible timescale for the action.

Previous strike action on the issue was suspended last May to facilitate negotiations, but a failure to reach agreement with DIT management on contracts for two TUI members resulted in a vote by their colleagues last weekend in favour of industrial action. Meanwhile, negotiations are continuing between the TUI and the Department of Education on the larger issue of staffing in the DIT and the Regional Technical Colleges, including permanent posts for part-time and temporary lecturers and the promotion of lecturers.
