A scheduled three-day hearing of a motion on a legal issue brought by George Redmond in relation to a corruption charge against him has opened at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Mr Redmond (81), the former assistant Dublin city and county manager, has pleaded not guilty to receiving £10,000 between June 1st, 1985, and June 1st, 1986, as an inducement or reward for doing or forbearing to do anything in respect of a compulsory purchase order by Dublin City Council on 167 acres at Bussardstown and Coolmine.

Judge Joseph Matthews is hearing submissions by Brendan Grehan SC, with barrister Aongus Buttanshsaw, for Mr Redmond, and from Patrick McCarthy SC, with barrister Patrick McGrath, for the prosecution.

The proceedings cannot be reported for legal reasons.
