Legislation paving the way for the formal establishment of Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Brendan Howlin’s department has been published.

The Ministers and Secretaries (Amendment) Bill transfers some responsibilities traditionally taken care of by the Department of Finance to the new Department of Public Expenditure and Reform.

Mr Howlin (above) said when the legislation was enacted he would be responsible “for all functions vested in the Minister for Finance in relation to the public service, such as superannuation, remuneration, appointment of staff and terms and conditions of employment”.
