Leinster 39 Glasgow 11

Leinster got off to a winning start in the Celtic league by beating Glasgow 32-11 at Donnybrook tonight.

Leinster took an early six point lead with two penalty goals from scrum-half Brian O'Meara after two and six minutes respectively. Leinster certainly looked the better outfit and through some good play Denis Hickey came close to scoring an excellent solo effort.

However on Glasgow’s first venture into the Leinster 22 they earned a penalty which their out-half Tommy Hayes duly dispatched to leave the Scots trailing by three points.

Five minutes later they lead by the same margin when after a sustained period in the Leinster half, Scottish International Andy Nicol went over in the corner.

O’Meara had kicked 2 further penalties before Hayes, in injury time, brought the score back to just one point.

Leinster came out in blistering form after the interval and notched up a further 15 unanswered point in as many minutes.

There was a try apiece from full-back Girvan Dempsey and left-wing Gordon D'arcy while O'Meara weighed in with 2 penalties and two conversions to make the score 32-11.

There was no more scoring until the 2nd minute of injury time when Leinster out-half Andy Dunne went over near the corner following his searing break. O'Meara duly converted to leave the final score reading 32-11 and take his personal tally for the night to nine kicks out of ten.
