Lexus is recalling 983 cars in Ireland as part of a global recall of 1.53 million Toyota vehicles over potential brake fluid and fuel pump problems.
The majority of recalls involve a possible brake fluid leak.
According to Lexus: "Should this arise the driver will be alerted to it by the brake warning indicator light. At this point if the brake fluid is not replaced the driver will begin to notice a spongy or soft brake pedal feel, and the braking performance may gradually decline."
The models being recalled over this issue are GS300s and IS models produced between September 2004 and December 2005, and RX300s produced between February 2003 and November 2005. A total of 947 cars are being recalled over this issue in Ireland.
While no accidents have been reported as a result of either issue, three incidents of brake fluid leakage have been recorded in Ireland.
The potential problem with the fuel pump involves the connector within the fuel tank, which can move, causing it to wear. A Lexus statement said: "This could cause the engine to stall during driving."
In Ireland, 347 Lexus GS300 models produced between September 2004 and February 2006 are being recalled. Of these the majority are also part of the brake fluid recall.
No Toyota models are affected in Ireland, although they do feature in the 1.53 million recalls worldwide, which includes 740,000 cars in the US and 599,000 in Japan.
Over the past year Toyota has recalled more than 10 million cars and trucks worldwide for a variety of problems, including sticky accelerator pedals. In May, Lexus, the firm's luxury car brand, recalled 11,500 of its flagship LS cars due to a possible steering problem.
Repairs on the latest batch of recalls will be carried out at no cost to customers and will take two hours for the brake fluid rubber seal replacement and three hours to replace the fuel pump connector.
Lexus Ireland managing director Mark Teevan said: "We will be writing to customers in the immediate future to arrange for them to make an appointment with their Lexus dealer to have the repair procedure carried out at a time that is convenient and which ensures minimal disruption for the customer."
