The dispute in the library of Trinity College Dublin, which is preventing students from borrowing books, is set to continue for at least two more days.

A college spokesman anticipated that negotiations with SIPTU would begin within 48 hours over members refusal to operate a new computer system. Mr Jack McGinley of SIPTU said yesterday his union was available for discussions with the college management "or a third party" at any time.

SIPTU members believe an offer they received to operate the system controlling the borrowing of books was inadequate. Students still have access to the library and can read books there.
