The 17 companies which were given licences to use meat-and-bone meal in the production of feed for pigs were named in the Dail by the Minister of State for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development, Mr Ned O'Keeffe.

The Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development had refused to name the companies under the Freedom of Information Act, when asked to do so by the media inquiring into the operation of the Minister's milling company.

They were: Ballysallagh Feeds Ltd, Ballysallagh, Kinsalebeg, Co Waterford; Blackwater Feeds Ltd, Ballinaroone, Bally duff, Co Waterford; Matthews town Milling Ltd, c/o Grenan Pig Farm, Kilmacthomas, Co Waterford; Matthewstown Milling Ltd, Hilltop Pig Farm, Fenor, Co Waterford; Matthewstown Milling Ltd, Lower Pig Fattening Unit, Co Waterford; and Matthewstown Milling Ltd, Pig Fattening Unit, Fenor, Co Waterford.

Sladeville Ltd, Retagh, Carrick-on-Suir, Co Waterford; Thomas Leahy, Birchgrove Farms, Johnstown, Castle bridge, Co Wexford; Joseph Healy, Knoxtown, Clonroache, Enniscorthy, Co Wexford; Ronan Farms, Rosegreen, Cashel, Co Tipperary; Tara ByProducts, Rosegreen, Cashel, Co Tipperary, and Ballylough Milling Ltd, Mitchelstown, Co Cork, the Minister's own plant.
