A Northern Ireland man who shot his wife in the back of the head after assaulting her has been jailed for life at Ballymena Crown Court.
Adrian Baird (47) from Broughshane, Co Antrim had pleaded guilty to murdering his estranged wife and mother of three Katrina in February 2003.
The Ballymena judge, sitting in Belfast told Baird, his story may be little more than a "convenient explanation" for having gone to confront his wife armed with a gun.
He added that he also found it "extremely difficult to accept his account of the actual killing".
