A Dublin man has begun a life sentence for murder during an attempted mugging and robbery two years ago. Alan Lyons (19), Bonham Street, Dublin, was on bail for other crimes at the time of the murder.
Lyons had admitted the manslaughter of Mr David Watson (21), a Liverpool man working in Dublin, in a fatal stabbing in Thomas Street on April 25th, 1998, but had denied He was sentenced to life imprisonment by Mr Justice Smith.
Mr Watson, originally from Walton, Liverpool, was living with his fiancee at Echlin Street, Dublin, and was working for a tyre service company.
Lyons is already serving an eight-year sentence for two crimes he committed in the months before he murdered Mr Watson. This was his second trial on that charge. In March last year a jury failed to reach a verdict following an 11-day trial.
