The steel structure for Dublin's new Millennium Bridge, spanning the Liffey next to the Ha'penny Bridge, will be installed in one piece tomorrow. It is due for completion next month.
"The new bridge is important in terms of facilitating pedestrian traffic movements in the area in terms of linking Temple Bar with the new shopping areas north of the river and, particularly, in terms of adding a very finely designed feature in a most sensitive part of the city centre," said the city manager, Mr John Fitzgerald.
The lightweight steel structure, which is 41 metres long, will be lifted into place and connected to the concrete hanches using stainless steel pins.
Motorists should note that to facilitate the lifting of the bridge into position, Ormond Quay Lower, from Swift's Row to Liffey Street Lower, will be closed from 7 p.m. today to 6 a.m. on Monday.
