ONE OF the country’s oldest independent third-level educational institutions has closed its doors due to lack of finance and difficulties recruiting international students.
Established in 1951, HSI Limerick Business School has seen more than 80,000 students pass through its corridors over the past 60 years.
Five full-time staff and 30 part-time teachers will be affected by the closure of the college, which was run by former 2FM presenter Michael McNamara.
Mr NcNamara’s mother Nora McNamara founded the college as a secretarial school before her son took over the reins.
Speaking about the decision to close, Mr McNamara said it would have been “irresponsible” to his staff and students to commence the new academic year in the current economic climate.
Management at the college had been working up to the end of last week on a survival plan to save the college but it is understood the bank would not support the enterprise.
