A SURVEY carried out by a group campaigning against Limerick Corporation's controversial proposal to extend its boundary into Co Clare says about 81 per cent of the residents want to stay in Clare.

The canvass in southeast Clare was carried out by Clare Against the Boundary Extension. It is preparing a report which will include the results of the survey which will be submitted to Limerick Corporation and Clare County Council.

The chairman of group, Mr Jim Gully, said yesterday the canvassers mostly got a positive response on the doorstep and added: "It should be remembered that this has now become an area where, besides the native born there is a cross section of people who have come in from other counties including Limerick city."

Mr Jim Kemmy, a member of Limerick City Council, said he did not accept the findings of the survey, saying it was not scientifically carried out. "I know a lot of people from the city that are living in the area who are for the boundary extension," he said.
