A Limerick man charged with IRA membership has been granted bail at the Special Criminal Court.
Michael Kiely (42), of Abbeyvale, Corbally, Limerick, is charged with membership of an unlawful organisation within the State styling itself the Irish Republican Army, otherwise Óglaigh na hÉireann, otherwise the IRA on January 6th last.
State solicitor Claire Daly told the non-jury court there was no objection to bail provided a number of conditions were met, including that bail be set on the accused man’s own bond of €13,800.
She said Mr Kiely must sign on daily between 9am and 9pm at Henry Street Garda Station, reside at his home address and observe a curfew between 11pm and 7am.
Mr Kiely must surrender his passport and cannot leave the jurisdiction, including travel to Northern Ireland.
He must provide a mobile phone number to gardaí and ensure that this phone is in operation at all times and is the sole number used by him, and he is not to associate with any person convicted of a scheduled offence. Mr Kiely cannot contact any proposed prosecution witnesses in the case and is to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
