A CO Limerick man has been charged at the Special Criminal Court in Dublin with IRA membership and having a gun in Adare, Co Limerick, last Friday when Det Garda Jerry McCabe was shot dead there.
There was tight security at the court for yesterday's brief hearing.
Mr Jeremiah Sheehy (35) of Abbey Park, Rathkeale, Co Limerick, was charged with being a member of the IRA on June 8th.
He was also charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life at Adare, Co Limerick, on June 7th.
Det Sgt Daniel Haugh, of Henry Street Garda station in Limerick, gave evidence of arresting Mr Sheehy at 9.45 p.m. on Monday under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
He said he had cautioned Mr Sheehy, who made no reply.
He then told him that the Director of Public Prosecutions had decided he would be charged at the Special Criminal Court.
Det Sgt Haugh then identified the man in the dock as Mr Sheehy.
An Assistant State Solicitor, Mr Brendan Counihan, applied for a remand in custody, and the court agreed, remanding Mr Sheehy until June 25th.
Mr Sheehy, who wore a blue jumper, white shirt and dark blue trousers, spoke only once during the five minute hearing. He replied "Yes" when asked by the court registrar if he was Jeremiah Sheehy.
