A man accused of the murder of two women and two young children in Co Limerick is being treated at the Central Mental Hospital, a court heard today.

John Geary (31) with an address at Meadow Court, Newcastle West, but originally from Milford Co Cork, is charged with the murder of Sarah Hines (25), Amy Hines (5 months), Reece Hines (3) and Sarah Brough (20) at 18 Hazelgrove, Gortboy, Newcastle West, Co Limerick on November 15th.

When the case was called today, Judge Mary O’Halloran said she noted the defendant was not in attendance. The court was told he is a patient at the Central Mental Hospital in Dublin.

Insp Eamon O’Neill asked that Mr Geary be further remanded in custody to appear before the same court next month.

The accused man’s solicitor John Herbert consented to the application.

Judge O’Halloran remanded Mr Geary in custody until December 10th next when he is due to appear before Newcastle West court.

Sarah Hines and her two children, five-month-old baby Amy and her brother Reece (3) were cremated at a private ceremony in Co Cork today. Alicia Brough’s funeral mass and cremation service were held earlier in the week.
