Limerick's new racecourse was today officially given the go-ahead to hold meetings by the Turf Club after the Inspector of Courses, Bill McLernon, passed the track fit for racing.
The course at Greenmount Park replaces the old course in the city and brings the number of courses in Ireland back up to 27.
The first meeting at the course is scheduled for Sunday October 14th. It is the first new racecourse opened in Ireland since Wexford in 1951.
