The 28-year-old was also charged with assaulting Daniel Philips causing him serious harm on the same date.

Mr Mason was previously charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life at St John’s Square, Limerick, on May 24th.

His solicitor Sarah Ryan told the court bail had been refused in respect of the older charges at both the District and High courts.

Ms Ryan said she was not making any bail application on the new charges, which she added would have to done at another court.

The solicitor asked Judge Olann Kelleher to extend her client’s legal aid certificate to include the new charges.

Detective Garda Fergal Hanrahan of Henry Street Garda station gave evidence of formally charging Mr Mason with the new charges. He told the court the accused made no reply when charged.

Judge Kelleher remanded Mr Mason in custody to Limerick prison until August 18th next when he will appear before the same court again via video link.
