The Limerick county board executive will meet this evening to discuss the fallout following hurling manager Joe McKenna's decision to step down last night after the heavy defeat to Clare in Ennis.
A meeting has been scheduled for 6.30pm while a full county board meeting has been arranged for tomorrow.
"Obviously, Joe, like the rest of us, was disappointed with the level of performance against Clare and felt there was no more he could have done," county chairman Denis Holmes told today's Irish Times.
"We understand his position. We have convened an executive meeting. . . and will take it from there.
"We have two qualifying games left, against Offaly and Dublin, and believe we can still progress to the last eight. We would like to thank Joe and (coach) Ger Cunningham for the effort they put in."
The county board is likely to appoint an interim management team until the end of the season.
Clare outclassed Limerick by 17 points on a 2-21 to 0-10 scoreline in yesterday's qualifier at Cusack Park.
