CAO POINTS for many of the most popular college courses are broadly unchanged in the second round of offers this morning.
Of the 20 biggest courses, only five show reduced points in the second round; two in arts, two in commerce and one in engineering. In most cases, the courses in question have dropped by just five points
NUI Galway shows a five-point drop for most of their arts and public policy courses. Arts in Galway is down five to 350.
Liberal arts is also down by five points in Mary Immaculate to 400.
The big courses at UCD and TCD show no change in the second round. Arts at UCD is unchanged at 365.
But some 15 courses in UCD do show a drop in points. Law and history is down by 10, while English and film is down by five. Health and performance science is also down by five.
Another feature of the second round is the slight drop in some business and law courses. Commerce at UCD is down five to 445.
At Athlone IT, accounting and law is down by 55 points to 255. At Cork IT, accounting is down by five to 345 and marketing is down 20 to 305. Law international at UCC is down five to 535.
At NUI Maynooth, electronic engineering with computers is down by 65 points to 320 but it is the only level-eight course at Maynooth which shows a drop.
The second round generally has virtually no impact on hugely over-subscribed courses in medicine and dentistry. But this year medicine at the College of Surgeons is down two points to 721.
At the Dublin Institute of Technology, points are broadly at the same low levels seen in round one.
A range of film and TV production courses at Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology also registered a drop in points.
