A "Live 8" rock concert is to take place in the Scottish capital Edinburgh tonight in an effort to add to the pressure on the G8 leaders on poverty.
More than a million people attended concerts around the world on Saturday and billions watched on television and the Internet as pop stars campaigned for extra aid, debt relief and fairer trade terms for Africa.
Hosted by Lenny Henry and Peter Kay, the event will include some of music’s biggest names such as Annie Lennox, Snow Patrol, Travis, The Sugababes, Ronan Keating, Beverly Knight, The Corrs, Natasha Bedingfield, Proclaimers, Texas, Youssou N’Dour, McFly, Bob Geldof and Midge Ure.
Tickets for this special event, taking place in Murrayfield Stadium, have already been allocated via a free text competition.
"Live 8" organiser Geldof condemned the protesters who clashed with police near Stirling this morning. He spoke out as he met hundreds of people arriving in Edinburgh on buses from England for tonight's concert in the capital.
Asked about this morning's skirmishes near Stirling, he said he did not know too much about what had happened but peaceful protesters could not be compared with anyone who resorts to violence.
He said: "How do you compare it with the people here - dignified and respectful - with the people who have no real political agenda?" The former Boomtown Rat then left Edinburgh's Haymarket Station for a series of engagements before tonight's concert.
