Because the moon affects tides and the human body is made up of around 60 per cent water - with the brain holding 70 per cent - it is said to follow that we are affected by the full moon.
• The power of the full moon has been linked with insanity, crime, accidents, feeling romantic and happy. One wag said that this was probably nothing to do with the moon's power but the fact that a full moon lightens the sky, making night-time antics easier.
• One study into more than 1,500 patients over three years found that animal bites were more common around the full moon, but another study of a similar number of patients over one year found no relationship between the number of dog bites and the full moon.
• Biodynamic farmers (including Prince Charles) use moon phases to plant by. Biodynamic farmers in Ireland are represented by the Biodynamic Agricultural Association of Ireland.
• Some people believe that the moon regulates women's menstrual cycles and triggers ovulation and fertile times.
• In some months there can be two full moons and sometimes there will be no full moon in a month. The latter will next happen in February 2018.
