English Premiership leaders Liverpool were eliminated from the Champions League at the first phase after drawing 3-3 with FC Basel tonight.

The Merseysiders went three goals down in the first half but managed a valiant fightback with goals from Danny Murphy, Vladimir Smicer and a Michael Owen.

Liverpool, who will now play in the UEFA Cup finished third in Group B, behind Basel and group winners Valencia.

Meanwhile Arsenal, despite being reduced to 10 men by Kolo Toure's first half dismissal, emerged top of Champions League Group A after a nil all draw with PSV Eindhoven.
