Tottenham 1 Liverpool 0
Spurs boosted the Premiership title hopes of their bitter rivals Arsenal today by beating Liverpool 1-0 at White Hart Lane.
Gustavo Poyet's 41st-minute goal ended Liverpool's 14-match unbeaten run in the league and killed off any realistic hope they have of winning the championship for the first time since 1990.
Second-placed Liverpool, on 74 points, trail leaders Arsenal by four points but only have two games left to Arsenal's three.
Should third-placed champions Manchester United (73) fail to win at relegation-threatened Ipswich Town later today, Arsenal (78) can clinch the title by beating Bolton Wanderers on Monday at the Reebok Stadium.
Liverpool had plenty of early opportunities in an entertaining match at White Hart Lane, despite being without England midfielder Steven Gerrard due to a slight groin strain.
Sami Hyypia, Emile Heskey, Danny Murphy and Michael Owen all went close while John Arne Riise struck the post for Gerard Houllier's side with a brave header.
But Tottenham, with little but pride to play for, had their chances too and secured the points when Poyet pounced from close after Simon Davies diverted Darren Anderton's 41st-minute cross into the Uruguayan midfielder's path.
