British police shot and killed a man in north London late last night after stopping a car in which he was a passenger and seing that he was holding a firearm, the Metropolitan Police said.
Two other men in the car were arrested on suspicion of firearms offences, the police said.
The vehicle was stopped as part of an ongoing police operation which involved officers from Scotland Yard's specialist firearms unit, they said, without giving further details.
"As is routine, the Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed and the Independent Police Complaints Commission will be informed in due course," they said.
