Longford manager Stephen Kenny is set to "re-shuffle" his team for tomorrow night’s crucial relegation battle with Dundalk.
After a poor start to the campaign Longford have come into good form in recent weeks, notching a victory over Shelbourne and drawing in Derry, but they will travel to Oriel Park tomorrow without defender Vinny Perth and top scorer Eric Lavine, both of whom are suspended.
"Eric, in particular, will be a big loss" said Kenny this afternoon, "but we can do a bit of re-shuffling. There are four players who could come in to fill the two vacant places." Lavine’s place will go to either Stephen Gavin or Shay Zellor, while either Eric Smith or Stuart Holt will take up the defensive slot.
Longford also announced today that Nigerian striker Uwi Gogboda has come to the club on a trial.
Gogboda, who played for Nigeria in the qualifiers for the 1996 Olympics (but not in the Finals, where the "Super Eagles" claimed the gold medal), is a free agent and played in the Maltese Premier Division for the past two seasons.
But, contrary to some reports, Kenny insists the Nigerian will not be considered for Longford’s first team "at least until he’s had a few training sessions with us."
