Longford Town moved out of the Eircom League Premier division’s relegation zone with a 1-0 victory over Shelbourne at Flancare Park tonight.

Longford, who before tonight had not registered a win in nine league games, had Eric Lavine to thank after grabbing the game’s only goal in the 56th minute.

Tonight’s win sees Longford leap over Dundalk into ninth place on 15 points, four behind St Patrick’s Athletic who suffered a home defeat to UCD last night.

Shelbourne, whose side tonight was seriously depleted through injury and suspension remain in third place on 24 points.
