Gardaí in Ballyconnell, Co Cavan, are investigating the latest attack on property belonging to the former Quinn group in the border town.

The investigation is centred on a company lorry being parked at the gates of the group’s packaging head offices and set alight on Monday evening.

Gardaí and firefighters rushed to the scene and the blaze was quickly taken under control. Gardaí say the building was not damaged in the incident and a full technical and forensic examination was under way.

This is the latest in more than 16 attacks on the property of the former Quinn group since it was taken over by receivers more than two years ago. All the attacks have been condemned by politicians, local and national, in the area from both sides of the Border and former owner Seán Quinn and his family have also called for the attacks to cease.
