Achieved high profile as education spokesman, but must now yield portfolio to fellow-dissident Fergus O’Dowd. Youthful and energetic, he will bounce back.

MICHAEL CREED

First elected in 1989, the Cork North West TD has now lost his position as agriculture spokesman. Cork is represented on the new front bench by Deirdre Clune, Simon Coveney and David Stanton, leaving Creed with a tough fight to emerge from the political wilderness.

DENIS NAUGHTEN

From the rural wing of the dissident faction, he is replaced as Roscommon's voice on the front bench by constituency colleague Frank Feighan.

The coming period of internal exile will test his resilience although politics is in the blood: late father Liam Naughten was also a TD.
