THE closure of the Light House twin cinema in Dublin in September deprived audiences of one of the city's most valuable cultural institutions - a discerning cinema which provided audiences with a wealth of international movies and introduced a wide range of exciting new film-making talent during its eight years in operation. Thoughtfully and imaginatively programmed, the Light House carved a distinctive niche for itself and nurtured a steady, loyal audience in a short time. Its directors, Neil Connolly and Maretta Dillon, stated that the closure was "not The End but an intermission". Let us hope that they are proved right and that the Light House will return at a new venue in the very near future.
