A Co Louth man is expected to appear in court in Cookstown, Co Tyrone, today charged with the murder of a soldier in Northern Ireland in 1974.

The 51-year-old man was last night charged with the murder of Corp Robert Thomas Moffet (36), from Newmills, near Dungannon, Co Tyrone, who was a member of the Ulster Defence Regiment. He was killed on March 3rd, 1974.

The corporal was fatally injured when the vehicle in which he was travelling was caught in a landmine blast a Killucan, near Cookstown.

An spokesman for the RUC said last night the man charged had an address in Co Louth.
