Louth midfielder Paddy Keenan has been named as the county’s first ever All Star winner after the final list of 15 were announced this afternoon. Cork and Down top the list with four awards each.
Cork's haul of four equals the lowest ever total for the All-Ireland champions - Offaly also landed just four in 1971 - and not one of the forward line that played in last month's final win over Down has been selected, while three of the Mournemen have been named in the forwards.
Instead Cork players dominate the defence, with Michael Shields named at full back and Graham Canty at centre back. Paudie Kissane is named at right wing back.
The Rebels' 19-year-old sensation Aidan Walsh joins Keenan in the middle of the park, while Kildare's Peter Kelly was named at right corner back and Sligo's Charlie Harrison on the other flank. Tyrone's Phil Jordan was named at left wing back.
Brendan McVeigh was handed the goalkeeper's jersey after a fine campaign, a first for the county, with team-mates Danny Hughes and Martin Clarke named in the half forwards alongside Kildare's Johnny Doyle, who was top scorer in the All-Ireland championship.
Benny Coulter completes the Down contingent at left corner forward and picks up his first award, with Colm Cooper getting the nod in the right corner to win his fifth. Dublin's Bernard Brogan named was at full forward.
Brogan, Shields and Hughes have been nominated for the Football of the Year award, which will be named at the All Stars banquet on Friday night.
The nominees for the Young Footballer of the Year are Walsh, Kelly and Meath's Graham Reilly
