Loyalist splinter group threatens taxi firms

The so-called Protestant Freedom Fighters group has threatened "action" against three Armagh taxi firms, which it has named. The group claims they ferry republicans around loyalist areas on spying missions and must stop. It also gave a warning to those "heavily involved" in drugs, those whom it describes as "police touts" and other "anti-social" elements.

In a telephone call to an Armagh newspaper, a man who gave a recognised codeword warned: "They would be targeted within the very near future." The PFF would continue to shadow all such actions and take "appropriate measures," he said.

The spokesman claimed the organisation had thrown a "pipe bomb" at the home of a prison officer in Lisanally/Lonsdale on Saturday night. He also said it was responsible for several incidents in Armagh in recent weeks: an attack on a family in Alexander Road, the burning of two lorries and a Portable toilet.

The caller said the pipe bomb had not exploded.
