Around 40 Loyalists were involved in the incident in the Mater Hospital last night after the Tour of the North parade.

Patients in the hospital had to be locked in their wards after the gang of youths broke away from the main parade and entered the hospital.

Hundreds of Orangemen along with bands took part in the march in the north of the city, which police said passed off without incident.

Police added they were called to reports of a disturbance in the hospital's casualty ward at around 10pm and the matter was resolved within minutes.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested following the incident, but no-one was injured and no damage was reported by hospital staff.

"All responsible sections of the community will condemn it," Ms Smith added.

"I would like to praise the hospital for the efficient way in which it dealt with the incident and for restoring normal service so quickly."
