Sinn FΘin has blamed loyalists for a drive-by gun attack on a Catholic man who was shot in the hand as he waited for a lift to work in Clady, Co Derry, yesterday morning.

The man, in his 50s, was waiting outside McErlane's bar at Clady Corner when a car drove by shortly after 7 a.m. Two masked men fired at least three shots at him, hitting him in the hand. The man received hospital treatment.

A red Vauxhall Nova car was seen speeding from Clady after the shooting. A similar car was later found burned out at Gortgole Road, Kilrea.

The Sinn FΘin MP for Mid Ulster, Mr Martin McGuinness, said the attack bore "all the hallmarks of a loyalist murder bid".
