The Orange Volunteers have claimed responsibility for a grenade attack on a house in north Belfast in which a mother and her 14-year-old son escaped injury. The device was thrown at the back of the house on Mill Avenue in Ligoniel on Sunday night.

Two people escaped injury in a petrol-bomb attack in south Belfast, when a device was thrown at a house on Milfort Avenue, Dunmurry. Detectives investigating the murder of a teenager whose body was found in a shallow grave have said they are pursuing many lines of inquiry but have ruled out a sectarian motive. The body of Jonathon Cairns (18) was discovered in Loughamore Forest, five miles from his home in the village of Ballykelly, Co Derry.

He was found dead hours after he was reported missing following a Saturday night out with friends.
