Unions and management at Element Six are holding exploratory talks at the Labour Relations Commission today in their dispute over the future of the Co Clare business.
The three unions - Siptu, the TEEU and Unite - are seeking improved redundancy terms for the 207 workers who are set to lose their jobs at the Shannon plant.
Element Six, which is offering 2½ weeks wages for every year of service on top of the two-week statutory payment, has refused to negotiate the contents of the package.
In a joint statement last night, the unions expressed concerns about the mandate of local management “to engage meaningfully”
Union representatives wrote to the company this week warning that it will be issued with one week’s notice of industrial action if it takes any steps to implement a redundancy package without agreement.
Workers voted in favour of official industrial action last week.
