GAA:James Horan has been appointed as the new Mayo manager, it was confirmed this evening. The former Mayo All Star was handed a three-year term at a meeting of the county board at McHale Park this evening.
Horan, who took his club Ballintubber to a first ever senior county final at the weekend, will bring a backroom team of Martin Connelly, James Nallen and Paul Jordan to the position.
Tommy Lyons had been the favourite to succeed John O’Mahony, the former Dublin boss was interviewed by the selection panel and described the position as his dream job. Lyons has not managed an inter-county team since stint in charge of Dublin ended in disappointment six years ago.
Anthony McGarry had also been interviewed for the job while John Maughan withdrew his candidacy last week.
