Fallen power cables have been removed from the M50 motorway at the Finglas exit allowing severely disrupted traffic return to normal.

An ESB spokesman said a lorry transporting a crane cut a number of power lines this afternoon. The problem was resolved at around 8 p.m. this evening.

The power shortage caused traffic lights at Doyle's Corner and Hanlon's Corner to fail and resulted in tailbacks of at least 7 miles.

The spokesman repeated the company's safety warning for drivers of tall machinery to beware of power lines while working.
