A talk by Ciaran Mac Mathuna, veteran broadcaster and authority on traditional music, is among the highlights of a festival in Castleisland, Co Kerry, this coming bank holiday weekend.

The lecture has been arranged by Matt Cranitch, one of dozens of musicians who will help to celebrate the Sliabh Luachra style of music and playing at sessions in a dozen or so pubs throughout the town,

It will be part of the seventh Patrick O'Keeffe Traditional Music Festival and an Mac Mathuna is expected to recall his rambles in Sliabh Luachra for his popular radio programme, A Job of Journeywork, in the 1950s.

It was during that period that he met and recorded such fiddle masters as Patrick O'Keeffe and Denis Murphy in their prime.
